Penetration testing and vulnerability scanning
Find the weak spots in your systems before an attacker does. We arrange vulnerability scanning and penetration testing through our CREST-accredited partner, then go through the results with you and agree the next steps.
What we do
A vulnerability scan checks your systems for known weaknesses. A penetration test goes further: a tester tries to get in the way an attacker would, within limits you’ve agreed, and shows you what they could reach. We arrange both for companies in Hull and across Yorkshire, through a CREST-accredited penetration testing partner.
Testing works best when the people testing aren’t the people who built and look after the systems. Our partner runs the tests; we scope them with you and go through the results. CREST accredits cyber security companies for the services they provide, and our partner is CREST-accredited for penetration testing.
It depends on what you’re worried about and who’s asking. Common starting points are the systems that face the internet (your website, email and remote access), your office network and Wi-Fi, and your Microsoft 365 set-up. We agree the scope with you before anything starts.
You get a report of what was found and how serious each finding is. We go through it with you and agree the next steps. The report gives you evidence for an insurer’s questionnaire, a client’s security questions or a tender.
If you’re working towards certification, see Cyber Essentials in Hull and our free Cyber Essentials readiness checklist. For everything else we do to keep you safe, see cyber security.

How it works
We agree what to test and why, whether that’s your internet-facing systems, your office network or Microsoft 365.
Our partner runs the scan or the penetration test.
We go through the results with you, in plain English.
We agree what happens next, and you keep the report as evidence for an insurer, a client or a tender.
Evidence of testing helps with insurer questionnaires and the security questions larger clients ask.

If an insurer, a client or a tender asks for one, yes. Otherwise, a vulnerability scan is often the better first step, and our IT Assessment will show where your biggest risks are.
We keep the risk low by agreeing the limits in advance, including when testing happens and which systems are off limits.
No. Cyber Essentials Plus is a certification with its own technical checks. A penetration test looks at your systems more widely. We help with both: see Cyber Essentials in Hull.
